Das Britannia Hospital in England feiert sein 500-jähriges Jubiläum und gilt als traditionsbewusstes Unternehmen. Zur Jahresfeier hat sich sogar extra die Queen angemeldet. Im Mittelpunkt der Feier steht die Vorführung eines großen Experiments, welches exklusiv der Königsfamilie präsentiert werden soll: Die Erschaffung eines künstlichen Menschen. Zeitgleich dringt der Reporter Mick Travis uneingeladen in das Krankenhaus ein und macht eine grausige Entdeckung.
