China, während der Ming-Dynastie. Aus der königlichen Bibliothek wird eine geheime Martial Arts Schriftrolle gestohlen. Damit dieser Vorfall nicht an die Öffentlichkeit dringt, beseitigt der für das Gebiet verantwortliche Beamte mit seinem Helfer Au Yeung alle Zeugen. Ein Tatverdächtiger ist auch schnell in dem ehemaligen Beamten Lam gefunden, dessen Haus umstellt wird. Dort halten sich aber auch zwei Mitglieder der Hua Mountain Schwertkampfschule auf, Seniorschüler Ling Wu Chung und die Tochter des Meisters Ling San. Da vermutet wird, daß die Beiden in dem allgemeinen Trubel etwas über den Aufenthalt der Schriftrolle erfahren haben könnten, werden sie nun ebenfalls gejagt. Auf ihrer Flucht geraten sie ins Miao Gebiet, wo ihnen als Han-Chinesen ebenfalls Mißtrauen entgegengebracht wird.
