A právě jeho smrtí snímek začíná. Příběh vycházející z folkloru, příběh o přátelství, cti a dobrodružství. Příběh tak mimořádný, že kdyby se nestal, nikdo by mu neuvěřil. Manažer Phil Kaufman totiž kdysi Parsonsovi slíbil, že po jeho smrti odveze jeho tělo do milované pouště Joshua Tree National Monument v jihovýchodní Kalifornii, kde trávil celé týdny, a tam mu uspořádá kremaci. Phil tedy jeho tělo ukradne z mezinárodního letiště v Los Angeles, aby slib splnil, jelikož Parsonsova rodina podobný obřad odmítla.
