Ihre Anführerin ist Mrs. Doyle Counihan, eine resolute ältere Dame, die mehrmals täglich Stellung an ihrem Fernrohr bezieht, um alles zu beobachten und keinen Skandal zu verpassen. In die ländliche Harmonie dringt eines Tages die junge Witwe Edwina Broome. Sie ist lustig, modern und für jeden Spaß zu haben. Eben anders als die anderen. Im Handumdrehen hat sie das kleine Städtchen verzaubert und Mrs. Doyles Sohn Godfrey den Kopf verdreht.
