East German TV miniseries about the young maid Gertrud Habersaat, who marries, moves from Mecklenburg to Poland in the early 1940s, has to come back to Mecklenburg as a refugee during World War II and finally finds her place during the 1950s.

Im Mittelpunkt der Geschichte steht die junge Magd Gertrud Habersaat, deren bewegtes Schicksal sie während der Kriegs- und Nachkriegszeit von Deutschland nach Polen führt. Nachdem sich ihr Mann freiwillig zur Front meldete und nach dem Krieg nicht wieder auftauchte, geht sie mit ihren zwei adoptierten Kindern zurück in ihr Heimatdorf. Mit viel Kraftaufwand gelingt es ihr, den zweitgrößten Bauernhof der Region aufzubauen.
