Descripción

Narra la vida de Emma Harte, de ayudante de cocina en el comienzo del siglo XX, a respetada mujer de negocios y abuela en los años 1980. Desde sus humildes inicios, Emma Harte inicia su negocio con una tienda pequeña, pero en los siguientes veinte años expande sus tiendas e invierte en la creciente industria textil en Leeds. En la época de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Emma es la cabeza de un importante imperio de fabricación minorista, pero ella ha luchado toda su vida para encontrar el amor. Después de una hija ilegítima y dos matrimonios, finalmente encuentra el amor de su vida, Paul McGill, pero su relación se trunca por un trágico accidente, dejando a Emma con su hija. En la década de 1980, Emma se enfrenta a una de sus más grandes pruebas: sus niños tratan de echarla de su compañía, pero Emma está muy lejos de ser la mujer senil que ellos creen, y está decidida a detenerlos a toda costa.
