Aux États-Unis, l'armée a mis au point des caissons d'hibernation permettant de conserver dans ses meilleurs soldats pour les réveiller en cas de conflits. Le Pentagone demande un test pour s'assurer de la fiabilité. Deux cobayes choisis pour leur Q.I moyen et sans aucune famille. Un homme, Joe Bowers qui n'a aucune ambition. Ses compétences professionnelles se résument à regarder la télévision toute la journée, assis sur une chaise d'un hangar d'archivage de l'armée. La femme, Rita, une prostituée. L'officier Collins, responsable du projet s'égare et développe un trafic de prostituées avec Upgrayedd, le mac' de Rita. Le scandale éclate, le projet est arrêté, les deux caissons sont remisés et oubliés dans un hangar militaire. 500 ans plus tard, le caisson de Joe est accidentellement ouvert, il découvre le résultat de la culture américaine : des débiles gavés de marketing qui ne savent plus rien faire…
