En Géorgie, un homme, Ben, s'aventure dans les marais, espérant y retrouver son chien. Un inconnu l'y accueille plutôt mal. Il s'agit d'un individu inculpé d'un crime qui se cache dans ce lieu inhospitalier pour vivre près de sa fille, Julie, recueillie dans une ferme voisine.
