Après avoir violemment pillé une ville, la bande de Jack Remy cherche à fuir vers le Mexique. Sur le chemin, un fleuve qui peut uniquement être traversé en empruntant une barge tenue par un dénommé Travis. Remy envoie des hommes en éclaireur pour neutraliser Travis et assurer le passage de la bande. Après l’intervention de son ami Phil, Travis reprend le contrôle de la situation et parvient à faire traverser les habitants du bourg qui s’est créé autour de son embarcadère pour les mettre en sécurité sur l’autre rive. A l’arrivée des hommes de Remy, les deux groupes se font face de chaque côté du fleuve.
