Li Hsin-Huan surnommé le Poignard volant est un épéiste de renom possédant de grandes qualités techniques, un sens de la justice et une droiture extrêmes. Mais il a aussi des faiblesses, il est alcoolique et solitaire, et les êtres les plus chers à ses yeux ont presque tous disparu... Li noie son chagrin dans l'alcoolisme depuis qu'il a abandonné sa bien-aimée Shi-yin à son meilleur ami Xiao-yun, car ce dernier lui avait sauvé la vie.
