Tan Tung (Alexander Fu Sheng) est un jeune réfugié chinois fraîchement débarqué à Hong Kong en toute illégalité. Dépourvu de carte d’identité, son grand père a du mal à lui trouver un emploi stable et il se trouve contraint de vendre des jus d’orange « pressés à la force du poing » à la sauvette. Bagarreur et fougueux, il se met bientôt à dos un chef de triade local Xu Hao (Johnny Wang Lung Wei) qui le piège et tente de le faire arrêter pour trafic de drogue. Il n’a alors d’autre alternative que de fuir la colonie anglaise vers les Etats-Unis. A peine arrivé à San Francisco, il est engagé par un restaurateur peux scrupuleux et fait connaissance avec un étudiant taiwanais, Yang Jian Wen (Sun Chien), lui aussi sans le sous. Le sort s’acharnant sur Tan Tung, il lui faudra peu de temps pour être à mêlé à une lutte entre deux bandes locales, le club du Dragon Blanc et celui du Tigre Vert…
