Après avoir été humilié dans le ring par un kickboxer sale qui a baissé son short, puis l'a frappé, un maître d'arts martiaux décide de se rendre en Chine et entrer dans un monastère où il peut apprendre la forme de combat Shaolin. Le film bifurque ensuite sur le territoire « Karate Kid » où le novice se humilie à chaque tour, est toléré comme un étranger, et vient toujours un champion. Le monastère enseigne la non-violence, mais tout le monde sait que tôt ou tard l'étudiant va rattraper son retard avec le méchant.
