Marie Davenport si trova coinvolta in un triangolo amoroso tra lei, suo marito Alex e Daniel ma proprio quando decide di svelare al marito i suoi sentimenti, questo viene ucciso in un banalissimo incidente nautico. Qualche giorno dopo il suo corpo scompare misteriosamente dall'obitorio. Da questo momento prende avvio un vero e proprio giallo. Il marito ricompare vivo e vegeto (è resuscitato oppure non era morto?). La storia prende ora una piega diversa, con preti, monache, visioni mistiche, vortici che si trasformano in una croce fosforescente che si imprime su una parete rocciosa e lei, Marie alla fine si redime e ritorna col marito.
