Amélie cresce in provincia, siamo in Francia. Suo padre è un medico fin troppo originale: visita ogni mese la figlia, che si agita ogni volta, e crede che sia malata di cuore. Si mette in testa di rintracciare il proprietario, che a quel punto avrà una cinquantina d'anni. Lo trova, gli restituisce il "ricordo" e gli cambia la vita.
