Miles è un bravissimo motociclista di rally, ma non è molto a suo agio nelle relazioni umane. A causa di un pericoloso scherzo, un giorno si ritrova da solo in una valle sperduta. Lì si imbatte in A.X.L., un cane robotizzato progettato per essere una pericolosa arma militare, dotato di una sofisticata A.I. che rende il suo comportamento molto simile a quello degli animali. Tra Miles e A.X.L. nascerà subito una sincera amicizia, messa però in pericolo dagli scienziati che rivogliono indietro la loro creatura. Con l'aiuto della bella Sara, i due amici dovranno fare di tutto per sfuggire ai nemici ed evitare che l'aggressività del cane robot prenda il sopravvento.
