Nel 1912, Seth Atkins (Richard Dreyfuss), un vecchio marinaio che gestisce il faro di Cape Cod, trova sulla riva il giovane John Brown (Tom Wisdom) e lo accoglie a vivere con sè, trasformandolo nel suo assistente.
