Nel Vietnam dominato dai francesi, la proprietaria di un bar con sangue cinese nelle vene sposa un americano, ma costui l'abbandona quando nasce un figlio dai caratteri somatici orientali perché è un razzista e si crede tradito. Tempo dopo, durante la guerra d'Indocina, i francesi incaricano la donna d'una missione di spionaggio che consiste nel far saltare un deposito di rifornimenti dei ribelli.
