Descrizione

Nel 1327 Guglielmo da Baskerville, un brillante frate francescano, dovrà fare da mediatore tra la delegazione di Papa Giovanni XXII e una di dotti francescani, accusati di voler destituire il potere temporale della Chiesa in una isolata abbazia nel Nord Italia. Inaspettatamente, l’abbazia si rivela essere un luogo spaventoso, dove avvengono terribili delitti. I giorni e le notti che Guglielmo e Adso, il suo giovane allievo, passeranno in questo luogo saranno costellati di morti, fantasmi, sangue e intricati misteri. L’abbazia nasconde infatti un terribile segreto legato alla sua famosissima biblioteca. Quando però Guglielmo si troverà in procinto di svelare l’intricato enigma, ecco giungere lo spietato inquisitore domenicano Bernardo Gui, che cerca di sfruttare i delitti per distruggere l’ordine francescano.

I was really looking forward to this adaptation, although on the whole I guessed that a work of this magnitude would hardly succumb at the second attempt. Guess ... Of course, during the viewing it was not possible to avoid comparisons with the 1986 film, and this is what happened. In the old film version was almost immaculate hit with a choice of actors. All But the huge miscalculation is that, due to the lack of screen time, they simply cut off the entire boundless field of medieval culture, leaving a detective line, and expanded the melodrama unnecessarily - even the name was interpreted in this vein. The reasons are clear, but the film did not win. In fairness, the new series adheres to the books interpretation of the title.
