서기 2019년. 고담시에 배트맨이 사라지자 고담에는 수많은 범죄들이 들끓기 시작했다. 우연히 사건에 휘말린 고등학생 테리 맥기니스는 고담시 외각에 홀로 사는 노인 브루스 웨인과 만나고, 그가 한때 고담을 지킨 영웅 '배트맨'임을 알게된다. 고담의 범죄를 두고 볼 수 없는 테리는 브루스 웨인의 협력을 얻고 새로운 배트맨이 된다.
