"Godzina świni" jest opowieścią o średniowiecznym prawniku. Ale nie jest to zwykłe średniowiecze, a i procesy, w których bierze udział nasz prawnik są dość szczególnego rodzaju. Wśród klientów naszego adwokata znajdzie się zaś... świnia oskarżona o podwójne morderstwo. Akcja toczy się we Francji pod koniec XV wieku. Gruntownie wykształcony znawca prawa Courtois opuszcza Paryż zniesmaczony zepsuciem i korupcją wielkiego miasta. Przenosi się na prowincję; mając nadzieję, że znajdzie tu spokój i nieskomplikowane sprawy sądowe poczciwych wieśniaków. Ale nic z tego. Nie mija wiele czasu, a Courtois jest już zaplątany w sieć lokalnych intryg, labirynt przesądów i uprzedzeń, procesy o czary oraz źle widziany przez miejscowych związek z tajemniczą Cyganką Samirą, dość powszechnie uważaną za wiedźmę. W końcu bohater zostaje wciągnięty jako adwokat w groteskową rozprawę, w której za klientów ma m.in. szczury oraz świnię podejrzaną o zamordowanie dwóch żydowskich chłopców ...
