Zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges sollen die indianischen Einwohner von Borneo von zwei britischen Soldaten zum Widerstand gegen die baldigen japanischen Invasoren mobilisiert werden. Sie treffen jedoch auf den weißen Learoyd, welcher zum König der Indianer aufgestiegen ist. Dieser weigert sich zunächst den Alliierten zu helfen. Als jedoch sein Stamm selbst von den japanischen Truppen bedroht wird, willigt er ein und fordert die Souveränität seines Reiches nach Ende des Krieges. Durch die Kriegsbeteiligung ist das Idyll der Eingeborenen dem Untergang geweiht.
